Cameron Sutton
CB - Pittsburgh Steelers - Suspended
2024 Outlook
The NFL has suspended Cameron Sutton without pay for the first eight games of the season due to a violation of the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy.
Fantasy Impact
The suspension comes from a March incident and the NFL has determined that he violated the Personal Conduct Policy. He will be eligible to return from his suspension in Week 8 against the Giants.
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed CB Cameron Sutton.
Fantasy Impact
Sutton was released by the Lions in April after he was charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic battery. He’s been accused of domestic battery by strangulation.
Veteran DB Cameron Sutton has been released by the Detroit Lions as a result of his pending arrest warrant by a Florida police department.
Fantasy Impact
The police have reportedly been searching for Sutton, and amid the news, the Lions have opted to release the veteran CB ahead of his eighth NFL season. Sutton spent six years in Pittsburgh before signing with Detroit last offseason. The Lions may be able to void some of his contract guarantees given the situation, pending a league appeal.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Detroit Lions are bringing in DB Cameron Sutton on a three-year deal worth $33 million.
Fantasy Impact
Sutton is a versatile corner who found succes in Pittsburgh, increasing his ball production nearly every season in both interceptions and passes defended. The 28-year-old DB also adds a veteran presence to a young secondary in Detroit that ranked toward the bottom of the league in pass defense.
The Steelers third-round selection, Cameron Sutton, is already making noise. While it is far too early to expect him to start this year, Sutton is extremely versatile and will likely contribute on defense at some point in the season. A large deal of emphasis has been placed on the versatility of the defense, more specifically on man-coverage. Defense backs coach Carnell Lake has hinted that Sutton "...is a good attempt, especially in the third-round, of getting someone who can help us do that." Sutton's ball-skills are gleaming and this comes with little surprise, as he is the all-time leader in pass deflections at The University of Tennessee.
Fantasy Impact
Artie Burns and Ross Cockrell are expected to begin the season as the outside cornerbacks, with a sprinkle of veteran William Gay (but mostly in the nickel). Cockrell has managed to make a name for himself in Pittsburgh after being released by the Buffalo Bills, but the Steelers have proven they are not shy of allowing rookies to make an early impact. Trends would suggest that William Gay will be the odd man out if Sutton can live up to the hype. Granted, it is noteworthy that the Steelers also have free agent signing Coty Sensabaugh, former second-round selection Senquez Golson, and fellow rookie Brian Allen to compete for playing time. Steelers Nation can be excited about their defensive secondary for the first time in a long time.
